I am privileged to welcome you to the IET Italian Network, the Italian section of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
The IET, formed in March 2006 by the coming together of the IEE and IIE, is the oldest engineering institution in the world. Founded in 1871 as a voluntary association under the name of The Society of Telegraph Engineers we have now offices globally with almost 100 Local Networks representing the IET in local areas.
Our purpose is to represent locally the aims and services of the IET with the vision of sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global science, engineering and technology community to enhance people’s lives and the mission of building an open, flexible and global knowledge network supported by individuals, companies and institutions and facilitated by the IET and its members. This is achieved through the organisation of seminars, lectures, technical visits and activities in cooperation with academia and business. Most of our communications and activities are in English or in both English and Italian. They are rarely in Italian only as this reflects the international reach of the IET.
If you would like to get involved as a volunteer, to help us organise or promote our events, I would like to hear from you and welcome your help.
I am looking forward to meet you at our next event in Italy.
Think global, act local!
Michele Fiorini
Chairman, IET Italian Network
Dr Michele Fiorini, chairman of IET Italy, will be presenting and keynote speech at ITS 2012.
It tells the story of how the Titanic and the iceberg has grown into a legend of the sea. It took her discovery in 1985 to begin to find the truth behind the myth. One of the things that makes the Titanic so fascinating is that she represented the best of technology when she set sail on her ill-fated voyage in 1912, and it took the best of technology in the form of sonar, satellite tracking, and deep-dive technology to locate her grave 73 years later.
